Sindh’s New Teacher Dress Code Sparks Debate: No Makeup, No High Heels

A new code of strictness in the education department of Sindh has been conducted for the teachers across the province. This strict new teacher dress code stresses professional attire and ethical behavior. 

The move by the Sindh has highlighted the discussion among parents, social commentators, and educators.  

Key Guidelines in the New Teacher Code of Conduct

The latest regulations focus on professionalism, discipline, and a clear dress code for educators.

Here are the major changes:

  • Female Teacher’s Dress Code: High heels and Excessive makeup are not encouraged in educational zones. Instead of high makeup and heels, they are encouraged to wear simple traditional with minimal accessories.  
  • Dress code for Male Teachers: Male teachers T-shirts and casual clothes are not allowed to wear. Male teachers should wear formal and standard attire that aligns with their profession.  
  • Substance Use Not Allowed: In the education zone, some substances are prohibited for males and females. Consumption of narcotics, naswar, gutka and etc is not allowed.  
  • Avoid Personal Errands During Duty: Both male and female teachers are not supposed to use students for their personal tasks other than those related to students’ studies.  

Why the New Rules?

The Sindh government’s role is to ensure that teachers are serving as role models for students and the government is stressing enhancing the teachers’ professionalism.

By implementing this new strict code the educational zone will be a more disciplined and respectable environment for learning.  

Ghost Teachers and Accountability

Alongside the new dress code, the Sindh Education Department has intensified its crackdown on “ghost teachers,” the educators who receive salaries without performing their duties honestly.

According to the report, 5,000 ghost teachers have been identified, these ghost teachers might be removed and replaced with qualified teachers from the merit list.

This crackdown follows a 2025 Scrutiny Committee report, which found over 1,000 teachers absent from duty, prompting the government to halt their salaries.

Public Reactions: Support or Overreach?

The newly introduced policies have received mixed reactions. Some educators believe a professional dress code enhances respect for the profession, while others see the restrictions, particularly on women’s appearance, as unnecessary and intrusive.
